Our Technology

Variable dot optimization, printer calibration, color profile creation, profile validation, process control, adaptive digital halftoning, raster image processing, and color measurement instrumentation are all technologies available under the Cassinian Software umbrella. In addition, we provide consulting services, sales and technical training, and implementation support. Contact us today to get an NDA in place; tell us your project requirements, and learn how we can assist.

Printer Calibration

Calibrating the printer to a known good condition defines the relationship between printed colors prior to profile creation, establishing a common visual appearance for all printers regardless of ink, media, print mode or print technology. Also, proper calibration establishes a baseline for process control, allowing the printer to be re-calibrated when color drifts.

Process Control

Process control is the mechanism used to maintain consistent color reproduction on a printer. To implement process control, you first calibrate the printer to a known good condition; this ensures the printer can be recalibrated when color drifts. Next, you build and validate your profile, then set a baseline. You then retest against the baseline, recalibrating when necessary.

Characterization

Whereas printer calibration adjusts the printer to an optimum good condition, characterization (color profile generation) enables accurate color reproduction. It does this by creating 3D color lookup tables that translate printer-specific color values (combinations of CMYK) to colorimetric values (typically CIELAB values) referred to as Profile Connection Space.

Variable Dot

Most modern commercial inkjet printers employ variable droplet, or variable dot technology to enhance image quality, increase apparent resolution and improve dynamic range. Unfortunately, most third-party RIP software lack a mechanism to optimize variable dot use for different ink, media, print modes and print resolutions, leaving this feature largely underutilized.

Profile Validation

Printer calibration is the first step, followed by color profile generation (characterization). But once the profile is built, how do you know if it will produce accurate color matches? Profile validation helps ensure accurate color reproduction by validating the profile against an industry-standard Color Reference Print Condition, making this a critical part of the color workflow.

Digital Halftoning

Halftoning is the method used to convert a near-continuous tone image (a digital photo or artwork, for example) to a binary format of high spatial resolution, suitable for printing. Thus, the digital halftone algorithm employed is critical to print quality, color reproduction and dynamic range. We can offer advanced adaptive algorithms specifically designed for inkjet color printing.

Solas-24 micro spectrophotometer module

Spectral Measurement

Solas Instruments is an innovative start-up working to design highly compact, reliable and ruggedized spectrophotometer modules for OEMs. The compact design, measuring just 45 x 50 x 30 mm, makes this an excellent choice for embedding inside a printer, to automate calibration, characterization, and process control functions. Cassinian Software has partnered with Solas to bring this technology to market.

Solas 24 Instrument

The Solas 24 concept instrument places the Solas spectrophotometer module inside a handheld housing, adds a Wi-Fi access point module, a rechargeable battery, and a USB battery charger and data pass-thru circuit. This allows the instrument to be used wirelessly with a tablet or smartphone, or tethered to a tablet or notebook PC. It targets markets such as industrial QC, interior design, digital photography and commercial print. It is capable of taking both reflective and emissive measurements quickly and accurately.
